Information for Recreation in Colorado and the Rockies
In the spring of 1997 Jean found an ad for an older golden retriever free to a good home. Jean went to see the dog. She found a very obese but loving, happy lady. Her people were moving from the mountains and didn't have a place for her in their new home. They decided that Jean would give her a good home.
Her call name was Biba, which they said was the Italian term for baby. They also said that Biba never got on the furniture. When she entered our home, she first told Skipper and Andy to not bother her. Next she jumped up on the couch and made herself at home.
Dr. Terry Stephen at Evergreen Veterinary Service determined that her obesity was due to hyperthyroidism. Thyroid medicine and a change in diet eventually brought her weight down to a proper level.
Biba shared our home for nearly three years.
