Buford Lodge is located on the northwest side of the Flat Tops Wilderness Area 20 miles east of Meeker on Rio Blanco CR 8. Owned by Tom and Diane Tucker, the lodge has been in the family since 1958. Guests can stay in historic log cabins, either of two modern cabins, park an RV in sites with full hookups (water, electric, sewer), or pitch a tent beside the North Fork of the White River. Anglers will enjoy private fishing for trout that can exceed 20 inches on a mile of the river. Nearby attractions include Trappers Lake, trails to hike or ride horses in the wilderness area, fishing in streams and lakes (Lake Avery is only a half-mile to the west), colorful wildflowers, along with wildlife watching for deer, elk, black bear, bighorn sheep, and moose. The lodge also offers guided hunting for big game from the first archery season beginning the last weekend of August, through the last rifle season ending in November.
